Details

Markhams are best known for building large Horizontal engines for colliery winding. This small 'A' frame engine was built by them and used by then. When an engine was being overhauled in situ, this engine was taken to site and use by the Markham's men to rebore the cylinders of the larger engines. It could be said that this was one of the first portable power tools, by it did require a steam supply from the boilerhouse of the engine being overhauled (or a portable boiler).
