During the working life of Wortley Top Forge, there is no evidence to suggest that there was any form of power on site to supplement the three water wheels. In spite of this, there is now a respectable collection of engines on show in the Museum. These have, over the years, been bought by or given to the society or its members. Not all engines in this collection are on site and not all of those on site are on display. The following details are mainly for those engines that are on display, however some of the bigger engines in store are also listed.
The engines listed can be found in one of four places; The Foundry Building; The Joiners Shop; The Smithy & South Yorkshire Ironworks Buildings; and the Back Field (in Storage). Visitors wishing to see a specific engine should ask a guide if a viewing is possible at that particular time.
Included in the displays of engines are some of the engines from the Edgar Brook Collection. This collection of Engines, Electric Motors and related items, is owned and administered by the South Yorkshire Industrial History Society.
The List below covers the most significant engines. Not all are on permanent display or accessible to visitors. Where possible photographs have been included along with important information and historical notes, where information is know. Those pages including photographs are labelled, and will take longer to load.
