Details

Almost certainly the Oldest Pollitt & Wigzall engine to survive. Due to a miss-understanding with the scrap man involved, the flywheel and engine bed were lost. However as recompense George III was obtained through the same company.

The cylinders have three piston rods, one for the high pressure cylinder and two for the low pressure cylinder. This makes the engine shorter than some as the two cylinders can be mounted close together without the usual glands where the piston rod passes from one cylinder to the other. The two low pressure piston rods pass down either side of the high pressure cylinder.

The crank shaft and connecting rod of this engine are on display at Top Forge - The crank shaft, complete with the three valve eccentrics is close to the entrance gate, while the connecting rod is in the Foundry building.

Possible plans for this engine include a display based on how a large mill engine is assembled on site
