
This Photograph was taken in February 2000. It shows the remains of the Shingling Hammer (used to press the slag from within the puddling iron and from it into 'Puddling Bars'.
Although this hammer was superseded by a steam engine and rolling mill, it remained in use when water was available. This hammer and a datestone (1713) are now the only parts of the site to survive the closure in 1929.
Note the two iron rims of the waterwheel, the similarity of the hammer to No.1 at Top Forge and the large stone only supported by the Hammer trunnions.
