These photographs were taken during February 2000. They show some of the remains of the Tin Mill site. The Tin Mill is known to have been a water powered rolling mill producing thin iron sheet. Whether tin was ever applied to the sheets at this site is not known, but it is more like the sheet was just destined to be tin plate when it let the site.
In the past 30 years, the site has been changed extensively around the dam, by the local fishing club.

The Weir for the Tin Mill is about a mile and a half down stream from Top Forge. It is of interest because of its single step construction.

Adjacent to the weir is the old sluice, now modified with wheel operated valves

Some of the last remaining stonework of the Tin Mill. This wall is in the order of 6 feet high and is thought form part of the main building.
The Tin Mill is easily accessible for visitor, although there is not much to see. The main path does not follow the Goit from the river to the dam, but this route is well trodden just the same.
If you do visit, please do not disturb any fishermen you find on the dam, it is because of them that the site has survived as well as it has.
