Taken at an unknown date, we are looking South East from Thurgoland Cricket Field (still in use). In the foreground, the bowler is just starting his run up (right to left). Immediately behind the Cricket Field is the Woodhead Railway line, and behind that again, the row of cottage by the 'Bridge' Inn.
Wortley Top Forge is just visible in the middle distance and to the left of the photograph. The most prominent feature are two legs of the tripod hoist used to test axles. Also visible are two chimneys.
The farthest horizon is Wharncliffe Chase and Wharncliffe Crags.
