Cottages & Forge

From just inside the Forge, we are looking past No.2 hammer towards the furnace for No.1 hammer and the site of the blower.

In the foreground, No.2 hammer has been run with wood between the hammer and anvil. This seems to have been to act as a demonstration. To the right of the anvil are two axle ends. These have been cut off using the hammer and a cutting tool, then have been left to lie where they fell. It is imagined that under normal circumstances, these would be re-used by returning them to Low Forge.

To the left of the hammer, in the background, are the furnace and crane for No.1 hammer. The furnace looks to be out of use judging by the bars and tools piled up against it.

On the extreme right is the bucket the seems to have held grease for the main bearing of No.2 Hammer. The cam and shaft bearing to the left of the bucket look to be shiny and well greased.
