Sheffield lecture events will be at Kelham Island Industrial Museum, starting at 7:30 p.m.. If you need directions to the museum, please contact Derek Bayliss (0114 230 7693). *A minimum admission charge of £1.00 will be requested from non members attending these lecture events.

WALK. Wednesday 7th May 2008. (18.30 - 20.30). Trains, trams and boats in central Sheffield. A look at central Sheffield's transport history: Midland station, supertramjunction, canal basin and Nunnery junction railway complex. Meet at the cascade in front of the Midland Station. WALK. Saturday 10th May 2008. (10.30 - 12.30). Quarries and cliffs in southwest Sheffield. A close look at the geology and workings of two former quarries. Led by Peter Kennett for Friends of the Porter Valley. Meet at junction of Quarry Lane and Brincliffe Edge Road. Contact: Peter Kennett 2361271.
DIESEL PUMP RUN.Sunday 11th May 2008 ( and Sunday 14th September ). 11.00 - 17.00. Diesel Pump House - Full Load Run. Organised by South Yorkshire Trades Historical Trust / Yorkshire Water. WALK. Tuesday 13th May 2008. (18.30 - 20.30). A Guided Walk in the City Centre with the Victorian Society, with a particular focus on the recently restored Education Officeson Leopold Street. Meet at Sheffield Town Hall front steps. Contacts: Valerie Bayliss 2307693 or Graham Hague 2686729.
WALK. Saturday 17th May 2008. (10.15 - 15.00). Water and Water Power in the Rivelin Valley. A walk down the valley. Meet at Rivelin car park, Rails Road (SK 292 873). Bus No, 64. FAIR. Sunday 18th May 2008. (12.00 - 16.00). Cannon Hall Local Heritage Fair. At Cannon Hall, Cawthorne. Admission free. The Society will be having a stall. Offers of help will be much appreciated. Contact: Derek Bayliss 2307693.
LECTURE. Monday 19th May 2008. (19.30 - 21.00). Mining and quarrying in Ringinglow and the Porter valley. SYIHS lecture by Peter Kennett at Kelham Island Industrial Museum. £2.00 for non members.
WALK. Thursday 22nd May 2008(13.30 - 15.30). Kelham's Riverside - a walk through the past and the future. (and again, walking further upriver, on Thursday 29th May). Organised by SIMT / Upper Don Trust. Meet at Kelham Island Museum Car Park. Contact: Robin Fielder 2580575.
FAIR. Saturday 24th May 2008.(10.00 - 16.00). Rotherham Local Heritage Fair.Held at the Rotherham Library and Arts Centre. Admission Free. The Society will be having a stall. Any offers of assistance will be appreciated. Contact: Christine Ball 2361471.
WALK. Thursday 26th June 2008. (19.30 onwards). Doe Lea Walk. A stroll around the 'village that died' with Dudley Fowkes of Derbyshire Archaeological Society I.A. section. Meet by the winding wheels at Bramley Vale (site of Glapwell colliery) on the A617 (SK 467 661).
DAY TRIP. Saturday 28th June 2008. A Day at the Middleton Railway. Meet Brian Slater at Leeds Railway Station at 10.15 to follow the course of the Railway to the present Middleton Railway Station for lunch. After lunch: a film, a visit to the engine house and a ride on the railway. Plus a walk along the tramcar route through Middleton Woods before catching a bus back to Leeds station.
